Yet Another Comprehensive Plan Change which will affect the "jewel of the county"

As many of our readers know, rampant, inconsistent development is a problem all over Florida and Manatee County is no exception. With the vote on Hometown Democracy looming, developers are frantically pushing to get every Comp Plan change they can before actual citizens have the opportunity to weigh in on these matters.
This proposed change would add to density in areas in the evacuation areas that are already close to maxed out and is inconsistent with the current Manatee County Comprehensive Plan. It is also inconsistent with the FEMA guidelines to not increase development in coastal areas.
Sadly, the very same commissioners who are crying out against BP and what the oil spill is doing to our wildlife, coast and natural habitats could care less when it means they can exploit our land in the same manner.
Adding density to Coastal Bradenton / Palma Sola area will have a negative effect on Anna Maria Island in many ways, please contact the commissioners who do not understand or choose to ignore this and tell them your thoughts.

To All Concerned Residents and voters in Manatee County !
Yesterday, Thursday 6-17-2010 your Manatee County Board of Commissioners took approximately 2 3/4 hours,
to hear Pat Neal of Neal Communities and his associates present their final request for a Comprehensive Plan Amendment request.
This request is to Amend the Comp Plan, designating Robinson Farm ( NW Bradenton) from its present density of RES-1 to RES - 3.
This is in my backyard (neighborhood), and is not compatible with the surrounding properties, as the Comp Plan designates.
Residents of this area in NW Bradenton have attended several meetings on this issue. We started a petition and obtained 264 signatures
of the area residents against this amendment request. We have brought up dozens of reasons why this request should be denied.
BOCC voted. The final vote was 3 - 3 ! .......... Of the commissioners that voted:
3 voted - Approve the requested Amendment to the Comp Plan
Whitmore ( made motion )
Bustle ( seconded motion )
Brown
3 voted - Deny the request for the Amendment to the Comp Plan
McClash
Chappie
Hayes
This resulted in a no action, and the request being denied.
Mr. Neal was then very quick to request another hearing this coming MONDAY JUNE 21st, 2010 at 9:00 AM.
((( NOTE: We are told Commissioner Getman ( in hospital) will vote via telephone )))
BOCC granted his request. I am at a loss and NEED YOUR HELP !

  1. Apparently, Commissioner Whitmore has provided a response that the vote will stand 3-3. Keep watching, this will not be the end of this attack on the Comp Plan.

  2. Ms. Whitmore presided over Holmes Beach as that city introduced to our island the most disgusting construction concept ever: the allowing of two homes on a single lot. So how do you expect her to vote?
