MORE QUESTIONABLE APPOINTMENTS
Following the resignation of Frank Pytel and Mike Yetter from P & Z the Mayor is now recommending the following candidates to replace them:
Albert Michael Pescitelli - Mr Pescitelli was Mayor Fran Barford’s choice to serve on the recent Parking Safety Committee. It would appear from his actions on the Committee that he too supports all things PAR.
Nancy Yetter - an interesting recommendation as she is essentially replacing her husband. I understand that the Yetters come from Temple Terrace, hence the Mayor’s association with them.
Mrs Yetter recently published a letter in one of our Island newspapers (reprinted below) which had many absolutely aghast. I am not sure anyone could understand why she would say that when they constructed their house on Gulf Drive they had complained that the back out parking was unsafe and then proceed to admonish the one person who was addressing her worries on back out parking. Mrs Yetter’s letter leaves no doubt as to her contempt for almost everything the ‘lemmings’ of Anna Maria hold dear.
Did Mr Yetter ever vote against anything that PAR proposed? Did he ever do anything to address the back out parking issues that apparently had so distressed him? Who exactly is the hypocrite that Mrs Yetter refers to or am I missing something?
To complete a hat trick for this week, Mr Ed Chiles girlfriend, Tina Fusaro, is being appointed to the Capital Improvement Advisory Committee.
Please read Nancy Yetter’s letter after the "Read More" jump below:
Public safety and Pine Avenue
‘Hypocrisy.’ That was the only word that came to mind during the combined Anna Maria Planning and Zoning Board/City Commission meeting.
It seems we have a commissioner who has decided to hide his own agenda under the guise of pedestrian safety, when, in fact, all he wants to do is thwart any type of progress and beautification of our Island.
Unfortunately, he has a group of faithful lemmings, backing him - citizens and commissioners - who refuse to take their blinders off.
Four years ago, my husband and I approached the commissioners on the premise of pedestrian safety when we were planning to build our home. We wanted to avoid backing out over a sidewalk into busy gulf Drive. Our ideas and concerns of public safety were totally dismissed. Now some of these very same commissioners are heralding public safety. Hopefully, you see why I used the word ‘hypocrisy.’
I applaud the efforts of Pine Avenue Restoration to beautify what is now a very unattractive Pine Avenue. All I hear is that the community wants to attract more visitors.
Why would tourists want to drive or stroll past a group of run-down buildings?
Oh, and for the last speaker who expressed concerns that bicyclists might be able to maneuver on a sidewalk that involved turns, please do everyone a favor and just walk.

For the record Carl Pearman applied to the P & Z Board many months ago. He has confirmed that he is still willing to serve on the Board if asked. Why then has his name not been put forward as it should have been if the correct procedures were being followed?
ReplyDeleteThe following was posted on the blog many months ago but it seems an appropriate moment to remind people, in the Mayor’s own words, how our appointment process works.
This email is from Mayor Fran Barford to Duke Miller:

Subject:RE: Letter to the editor
The mayor and staff move all applications for board/committee appointments through the administrative process. We verify all information is correct on the application. The Commissioners approve all appointments. If anyone applies for a committee appointment, the staff/Mayor make no judgement calls and move all applications forward for commission approval. It is not the staff or Mayor’s decision to eliminate anyone who meets the qualifications as outlined by commission policy.
Fran Barford
Mayor
City of Anna Maria
PO Box 779
10005 Gulf Drive
Anna Maria, FL 34216

An update on last nights’ meeting.
ReplyDeleteSo the Mayor (presumably an avid reader of the blog) brings up the subject of Carl Pearman. She informs the Commission that all applicants wishing to serve on a Board have to resubmit their applications every 45 days. Clearly this was news to everyone. She went on to say that she would hate to lose Mr Pearman from any of the Committees he currently serves on as he is a most valuable member of the community. Mr Pearman was in the audience and he was acknowledged. Commissioner Stoltzfus asked whether the City had received any other applications and was told no. So without further ado the appointments of Albert Pescitelli and Nancy Yetter were approved.
So end of story right?
Not quite so fast.
Mr Pearman has since confirmed that he did indeed write personally to the Mayor three weeks ago and ask to serve on the P & Z Board. He never heard a word back from her.
Mr Charlie Daniels also had his name down for P& Z Board and he had actually gone into City Hall earlier this week to check they had his name down. They confirmed they had.
Nobody informed either of these gentlemen they had to resubmit a fresh application every 45 days. Would you not think that the Mayor would have written back to Mr Pearman and informed him that he needed to resubmit a new application? And likewise would not City Hall have told Mr Daniels that his application was in fact out of date and he needed to submit a new one?
As an aside..if you read the 10 nominations for both Nancy Yetter and Albert Pescitelli it reads like the Who’s Who of PAR supporters…… but you knew that right?
